Private house, Bergisch Gladbach

A property vis-a-vis the historic chapel and a neighbor with a listed half-timbered house. The task was to extend the existing one-story bungalow. As a planning solution, a simple basic form with a gable roof and a dark facade was proposed, which takes up references to the first house of the family as well as to the surrounding townscape. The result is a townhouse as a black solitaire that complements the color scheme of the existing building and harmonizes with the listed surrounding stock of half-timbered houses in the Bergisches Land.

Large lift-slide doors open up the volume, connecting interior and exterior and creating a multi-layered transparency. The overhead and overhead glazing as deliberate incisions provide the “framing” of the directed views to the night sky or to the historic chapel. In the interior, the ground-floor swimming pool with direct connection to the living space and the garden forms the central family area. The sustainability and climate optimization of the sustainable building is also reflected in the energy generation with heat pump and photovoltaic system as well as the wooden facade construction.
