Rathaus Frankfurt (Oder)

Frankfurt (Oder) Town Hall was built from the 13th century onwards and was extended several times up to the 20th century. The result was a heterogeneous building with different architectural styles. The aim of ff-architekten was to create an open house for urban society, with the new atrium at the center of the town hall. We supported the idea of merging the different parts of the building with our lighting concept. The lighting layout and direction are designed to create the impression of a homogeneous building without losing the individual character of the individual rooms.

In all the historic public areas, we have deliberately designed the luminaires to be restrained. The lighting supports the architectural concept, but is not emphasized. Parts of the building that are primarily used by the city administration have been characterized by more technical lighting. A black, linear profile system illuminates the stairs and corridors. Together with the change of flooring, this creates a new spatial impression that continues to support the historical context, while redesigned areas such as the meeting rooms were treated individually in the planning. The lighting in these rooms reflects the project-specific requirements and is integrated into the ceiling constructions. Here we developed individually tailored special solutions, which were created in close cooperation with the luminaire manufacturers
